Inch Quilting
So I decided to take quilting? Quilting can be a fun and exciting adventure. As in any adventure, however, be very well prepared to avoid any unpleasant incident. I'll give some basic tips to get started in the right direction.
For this article, I will refer to assembling the quilting machine to quilt your blocks. The tools we have are very important.
You will need a sewing machine that is reliable and can sew a straight stitch. You do not really need a line of luxury with all kinds of "bells and whistles, but you do not need a machine that is in good operating condition. I recommend buying the machine in a store that specializes in sewing machines. Courses are offered on how to use the machine and be able to maintain the machine. For your machine has something special "feet". I recommend that you have a 1 / 4 inch foot attachment. This commitment will continue to walk their precise stitching. This is extremely important when we construct a quilt. I also recommend that you have a "walk." This foot fixation into all layers of your quilt and when you padding real and binding.
When buying fabric for your quilt, always buy the fabric 100% cotton. It is best to buy a fabric of good quality too. You can always find good quality fabric in your local quilt shop. Prewash your fabric to return home to remove any size in the fabric. By pre-washing the fabric, you can also set the colors so they do not "Bleed" during washing and the future. You may want to use white vinegar in the washing or purchase a product called "Hold" to adjust color.
Fabric cut into pieces to use for the blocks is very important too. Appropriate tools for cutting fabrics are available at your local quilt shop or most stores that sell fabric and craft supplies. You will need a cutting mat, rotary cutter, and ruler. There are many different brands on the market. I still really like that. Martelli I use a mat and rotary cutter. Their carpets are double-sided so you get double the mat for your money. Its rotating blades of different sizes and also come left and right handed versions. They are truly ergonomic to reduce stress and tension on the hand and wrist. My rules are made by omnigrid. I recommend a 8-1/2 inch x 24 inch ruler. It is better to look more brands before buying one of these tools.
Good lighting is essential for sewing. Sewing machines have a light in the machine, but it is really not enough. You must have another source of light that may shed light on the fabric and the needle as you sew. There are many different bulbs and equipment available. I recommend an energy efficient bulb that is easy on the eyes. Ott lights are available in different sizes and shapes.
You may have noticed I said "your local quilt" on several occasions. A local quilt shop is a valuable resource for you. The courses are offered in general, I recommend a beginner quilting class. You will also find employees who are experts in the field of quilting and can give "free" advice and assistance. They are passionate about quilting and enjoy sharing their passion with you. The fabric and the tools you'll find quality quilt shop are high. The best quilt shop is wonderful friendships made there!
